I recently swept a number of e.l.f products after discovering the Super Glossy Lip Shine. I have read a whole thread of raves on how good their glosses are. But I had been too tired listening to so many raves that are not factual, in my opinion. Like I previously posted, I bought a lot of things because of so-called recommendations, and many are not as good as claimed. So I postponed buying e.l.f for the longest time ever, perhaps more than a year???
Now, I just want to tell the world how good and cheap many of e.l.f's products are. hahahaha. I love the gloss so much, it grew within a few days from one transparent one to 2 more coloured ones.
I am feeling compelled to open up this tube of Mauve Luxe, because I just painted my nails in Espresso by Sally Hansen. And my mind reeled back to how similar it is to this gloss.
e.l.f Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 in Mauve Luxe
Available: Sasa outlets, $6.90
Volume: 10g
Star Properties: Smooth glide-on slant tip applicator, shine, moisture, sun protection.
Packaging
Very good for something so cheap. Nothing looks like it will spoil on me. The plastic is good, the cap is translucent and steadily screws in, the paper wrapping it comes in is protective, so no one can tear it open and play around, unlike Silkygirl, which is just sort being kitchen wrapped.
Slant Tip Applicator
I've expressed my hate for tube applicators in the previous post. As usual, I do not like this, even though it says specially designed to be slanted and will glide on smoothly and all. Yes, it does go on pretty well, but if I had a choice, I'd choose a brush one, like Silkygirl (which I keep comparing too, because that's the cheapest drugstore brand we have in Singapore).
Nevertheless, I give credit to e.l.f as their slant tip is the best slant tip I've used so far. It's better than counter brand Laneige's Shimmer Crystal. The angle is quite precise, and does allows me to draw at the sharp corners of my lips. Plus, I like the fact that's it's big. The entire tube is big. Not so fond of those small little tips that take me ages to apply gloss over my lips fully.
Here, you may observe the unique slant tip that tapers off nicely, the screw cap which has multiple grooves so that cap is tight, and the rough amount that is squeezed out each time.Squeezing
This whole tube business is getting me irritated because I have to squeeze in a highly controlled manner. That said, I am glad e.l.f is pretty good with the tube design, such that it sucks the gloss back in at the amount that you see in the picture above. Lots of glosses don't, and some are so flowy, even that amount in the image goes all over if I had let go the pressure at this point. With e.l.f, it just goes alll the way back in. More control, less wastage.
Texture
This thing, is so smooth and creamy, it's really the best cheap gloss ever! It's so easy to apply, and the colour comes on exactly as in the tube.
Also, it doesn't flows around when I try to apply. Unlike some other lip gloss, as you brush the applicator, you can see the streaks following your applicator. Basically, the gloss just shift around, and around, and around, and around. And you can't get rid of the streaks, neither can you pile on the colour.
Feel
It's towards the dry side, but not drying on the lips. Can be worn without lipbalm (which I tried, but no, I will still wear lipbalm no matter what).
The best part is that it hints you when you're putting too much, which is about 3-4 squeezes. Trust me, once you apply the 3rd time, you will find that it sticks a teeny bit when you try to purse your lips. That's when you know the amount is just right.
Nice, smooth, creamy gloss that will not give your streaks, finishes real well, and indeed with the super gloss look as claimed.Colour
It's the same as in the tube. I like it so much. And it matches my nails exactly! Sally Hansen Insta-dri Espresso is exactly the same as e.l.f Mauve Luxe. hahaha.
I chose this colour, because I wanted to have a classic boring colour for the formal wear days. Instead of my normal hues of bright pink and bright green etc, that looks more teen girl that's not working yet.
It's like the super safe colour that no one will scold you for. But really, I am not too fond of this. So not me. I think my lipstick from Make Up Store in Poppy is around this colour. The sales assistant got me this, because at that time, it was my first batch of cosmetics ever ever, so she recommended me something safe.
Overall rating: 5/5
e.l.f is definitely a must buy. And once you get it, I think you'll not want to get other drugstore brands ever. They are just not as good, and some, like L'oreal are more expensive (I really refuse to let L'oreal fall under cheap and good. It's good, but not all that cheap for 12ml of stuff).
This 10g is probably going to last me a year, because I've lived on a single tube of 12ml Glam Shine, and it lasted more than a year.
PS: So expectantly, the next post will be on Insta-dri nail polish. hahahaha. I've put that off for too long. Got it when it was new on the shelves, but never got down to using it.
