e.l.f Elements Custom Compact & Custom Eyes

I feel like continuing my rave about e.l.f cosmetics. :PPP

I just want to show you that it works - the eyeshadows. Impressed beyond words. I've always felt the e.l.f is comparable to NYX anyway. Same pricing and most of the products are real good in that they surpasses drugstore brands conglomerates, like L'oreal, Maybelline, and Revlon, at somewhere like, 1/3 of the price even after tax, shipping and markup for profit margin in the expensive city of Singapore.

e.l.f Custom Compact #2567

The Box. Me likes the idea of customization, and consumer choice.

Available: Sasa, $6.90

Volume: 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm x 1 cm

Star Properties: Contains 4 slots for lip or eyeshadow pans of your choice.

Packaging
Okay, nothing much to fuss about, since it's just a paper buy & recycle box. It's very fitting, with accurate show & tell image of the product inside. Can be slight hard to pull open the flap, which might be irritating at the moment you open, but really doesn't matters.

Looks
White, simple, which I love. Has e.l.f elements printed in big silver letters, which I love even more, so I never forget that this compact belongs to e.l.f, and so I may identify what in the world is inside it if I do manage to leave it dying in the drawer, and uncover it from the dust one day. hahahaha. There's even eyeslipsface.com printed on the behind side so that I may always remember their website and go back in future for references.

Shape
Perfect square and very slim, making it so easy to slip it into any pouch, jeans pocket if you like.

I remember when I wore pinafore a long time ago, I slipped my umbrella, my bulky wallet and a packet of tissue paper into the huge pocket all at the same time, when I went out of school without bag, for lunch. Some times, it's better to wear dresses, because they allow for larger and deeper pockets. But that was when I didn't mind looking stupid. hahahahaha. Me and my warped theory.

Clean and sleek front of e.l.f elements custom compact.

Click-lock
If you buy this, do remember to check immediately that you've got one with a good click-lock that's both easy to open, yet tight and secure. If you don't go back for an exchange immediately. You don't want your pans to be falling out if the compact opens up in the bag.

Anyway, this lock is not really consistent. I bought two, and one is a lot looser, while the other is tight till I had some difficulty opening at first. Thank goodness it loosened up after a few use.

Back of e.l.f elements custom compact, the click-lock visible at bottom of image.

Number of Slots
I like the way it's designed, with 4 slots, just nice for eye shadows, as I always feel that you need a good 4 shades to really make elaborate and expressive shadowing. 3 is kind of errr, not here not there for me. But it's definitely good enough for everyday, in fact, one good sandy or gold eyeshadow is good enough for everyday.

Applicator Provided + Applicator Shape
I just couldn't believe they included an applicator with this. And it's not a normal applicator. It's dual functioned, with lips applicator on one side, and eyes applicator on the other.

The most impressive part is that the eye applicator is shaped! Yes, it's shaped, it's non-symmetrical. That means enough thought and effort was put in to design something that fits eye socket shapes.

The nearest drugstore brand I've observed that have thought of this, is Majolica Majorca, whose applicator is needle-like on one side, for lining the eyes with eyeshadow, and fat on the other, for general colour dumping.

The others, like Silkygirl, Maybelline, Revlon, they don't do this.

PS: You can't see it from here. I'll try to upload a close up.

Big Fat Mirror
I don't really mean fat. But yes, I mean, the mirror is so large. If there's anything I hate, it's tiny in-built mirrors that serve no real purpose. Pretty stupid and gimmicky to like tell me, "oh, there is a mirror on the top end of my lipstick". If it's on the side, maybe. But a 10-cent coin circle??? Save the crap. Probably only useful for taxi-artists.

Inside of compact - big fat mirror, 4 pan slots, one applicator slot in the middle, containing a dual function applicator.

e.l.f Elements Custom Eyes

Available: Sasa, $6.90 each

Volume: -

Star Properties: Choose your colours.

Packaging
Again, it's only the paper box. Inside, it is packed in plastic that was formed to the shape of the pan. And the plastic is clicked-lock. So if you don't buy the custom compact, you may keep the plastic to contain your eyeshadow pans. Remember to keep it if you don't buy the compact!

Quality
It's quite pigmented. Definitely doesn't match up to Urban Decay. But for its price, it's above average. Powder is generally easy to pick up, and easy to dump and spread. In fact, better than lower end drugstore brands like Silkygirl and In2It.

Custom lips and eyes pans in packaging. Eye shadows are at the bottom. From left to right, Ivory #2503, Pink Ice #2507 (this is VERY nice colour), Periwinkle #2508, and Dusk #2509.

Colour
The colours turn out really nice. I know they are common and you can find them anywhere. But that's the point of it all. This is just for people to own the basic smokey eye colours while not having to spend a bomb on kits like Bare Escentuals, or individual eye shadows from M.A.C.

The pinkish beige is a really sweet colour. One of my favourites for base colour.

Staying Power
Staying power is okay for half a day. I do not expect much from it anyway. I just like the concept of having basic smokey eyes in one travel-friendly compact with built-in mirror and applicator. That's all.

I'd say, Urban Decay lasts a day on me even without that primer potion.

Pricing
Be careful of this, because after all the $6.90s add up, it comes up to $34.50. So, I would pick Pink Ice and Dusk to use first, before really committing to the others.

I still find it worthwhile because it's the concept that you own. Somehow I am always not very happy with the colour combination from preset palettes. I don't know why.

Overall rating: 3.8/5
LOL. Looks so low although I have been only saying how good it is right. It's just a gut feeling how other people will feel about it. I have the tendency to be lenient with marks and overlook negative points when I rave about something, so was moderating myself.

So here's the Eyes of the Day (EOTD). =))

Surprisingly, I manage to look okay with a bare face. lol. This is the feel-like sleeping face, after washing my face. So I didn't even have makeup base on, just my moisturizer. Please pardon the mediocre makeup skills and my dark circles.

I did put loose powder around my eyes because the makeup wouldn't stay on moisturizer. And I am so glad my daily insist on applying lip balm as and when I am free is paying off! Normally, my lips will be dry and cracking. Thanks to tips from Paris B of My Women Stuff, 6 Tips for Smooth Kissable Lips including Review of Stage Wonderbalm, that I read some time ago.

I can't believe it really works! I've always love lip stuff posts from Paris B. It was what that first caught my eyes.
