This 1.93 carat natural vivid blue heart-shaped diamond is set to go up for auction by Tzoffey's 1818 during U. S. International Diamond Week at the Israel Diamond Exchange March 17-20. The diamond is expected to surpass the $1 million dollar per carat price for blue diamonds set in 2012. Blue diamonds, especially those over 5 carats, are extremely rare to see on the market and are highly sought after.
A 3.54 carat marquis fancy blue diamond ring sold $2.4 million or $687,712 per carat in April, setting a world's record price per carat for a fancy blue. But in November, a 10.48 carat fancy deep blue briolette sold for $1.036 million per carat - setting a new record price.
Although it is smaller, Tzoffey's owner, Avner Sofiov says the quality of this blue heart-shape is higher than the two blue diamonds sold in 2012 and he expects it to bring a higher price.
Another blue, a 5.30 carat cushion-cut fancy deep-blue will go up for auction at Bonhams of London this April. The blue diamond is set horizontally in a "Trombino" ring by Bulgari crafted in 1965 and features pave set round brilliant and baguette white diamonds. The ring is expected to sell for more than $2 million.
